Liquefaction is achieved by cryogenics of naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas to -160°C, reducing its volume by over 700 times to yield liquefied natural gas (LNG). For the efficient function of these plants, effective insulation systems are needed for cryogenic service. When a plant is operating at -160°C, the environment is unforgiving. Inefficient insulation will result in much higher cryogenic requirements as the boil-off is increased.
